Unfortunely a little delayed, but here it is.

This page will in the future be a monthly review of models from other model makers.

Model of the month.

X-38 Rescue vehicle.

From Canon creative park

Canon, the japanese printer manufactorer, have a homepage with models. Many topics, amoung it,

a science page with some space and telescope models. Amoung it a model of the rescue module X-38

Canon Creative park (english version)

The X-38 program was started in 1995 as an emergency and rescue vehicle

for the international space station, but the funds dried out in 1999, and the

project was cancelled, as so many space projects.

The X-38 bear a canning recemblance to the, also cancelled, X-24b, and was

made as a low-tech craft, abled to be controlled by a non-pilot astronaut.

Read the full story about X-38 at encyclopedia astronautica.

The kit itself is straight forward, and very suited for kids. Not many parts,

but be shure that the parafoil is straight, if not, it will start to twist. I tried

to make the parafoil in paper with rounded corners, but it can't keep it's shape,

but maybe with a little wire glued in between the layers. The craft can also be

displayed on a stand without the parafoil, download stand here.

I made a stand of fence vire for the craft, but it wasn't that good. Better try

with a wodden plate and some 3-4 mm fence wire.

Besides the space models on the cannon page, there's also a lot of education models.

Any teachers visiting this page should take a look. There's also some really good

giant bugs. I have made a couple for my joke tray, and I can hardly wait till the

next time I have drunken and/or stoned guests sleeping over. And I can almost

already hear myself saying; what bug? Hope I can do it with a straight face.
