Saturn C8

The Saturn C8 was the largest Saturn 5 version ever considered, but never build or launched. The model

is in scale 1:100, and about 135cm tall.

There are basicly three ways to go to the moon. The direct approach, starting with a full spacecraft,

and landing on the moon. Earth orbit rendez-vous, where a lunar craft is amsembled in earth orbit,

before travelling to the moon, and lunar orbit rendez-vous, where the landing is performed by a se-

parate landing machine.

Earth orbit rendez-vous could easily had been performed by Saturn 1b (Saturn C1) launchers, even

it would have taken severel , 15-18, launches to do it. The direct approach would have takern a saturn

C8 launch to perform, but NASA engineer John Houbolt discovered, by using lunar orbit rendezvous,

the mission could be performed with 1 Saturn V (Saturn C5) launch.
